Mindset Making Money

As you probably have read elsewhere on my website roysinOnline, I have a background in aviation, both military and commercial aviation, and I have competed both in cross country skiing and martial arts for several years. It has taught me a lot about myself and at the same time, made me select to hide what I earlier considered “weak sides” to my personality.

How wrong I have been to do that. It has taken me 55 years to look myself in the eyes and comes to terms with my strong and weak sides of my personality.

The experience gathered throughout the years that have past, has led me to develop routines to keep developing my personality, getting more and more in touch with the Infinite intelligence that surrounds us everywhere, and use it to succeed in what I do.

As I started with affiliate marketing in March 2020, my background has helped me adjust my mindset for making money online. In the process, experiencing personal growth on a level I have never seen before.

Affiliate Marketing – The Definitions and Principles

Affiliate marketing can be defined as follows:

  • Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affiliate_marketing, 18.03.2021
  • Affiliate marketing is an advertising model in which a company compensates third-party publishers to generate traffic or leads to the company’s products and services. The third-party publishers are affiliates, and the commission fee incentivizes them to find ways to promote the company )(Investopedia, https://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/affiliate-marketing.asp, 18.03.2021)
  • The idea behind it is that you promote other people’s products, often through an affiliate network, earning a commission if people actually end up buying thanks to your marketing (Nigel Patel, https://neilpatel.com/what-is-affiliate-marketing/, 18.03.2021)
  • Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products. You find a product you like, promote it to others and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make. (Pat Flynn – Smart Passive Income)

So basically, what I do as I work with affiliate marketing is to write about a product, service or my daily life and hook my articles up with affiliate links to the relevant product or service that I am discussing in my articles.

affiliate marketing

What is essential to understand is that what we call affiliate marketing is just a ” small part ” of marketing’s total concept. As such, we are, in reality, digital entrepreneurs. We do promote affiliate products, but we also find and develop ways to promote the said products.

Why am I saying this? Because it has all to do about mindset. If you restrict ourselves in our mind to be “just” an affiliate marketer, you are limiting yourself from growth, both business-wise and concerning yourself as a person.

Personal Growth As Your Business Grows

A part of marketing is your personal growth. You grow as you learn and put the newly acquired knowledge into action. You are reaching out and showing a part of yourself when you do this. You are exposing a part of yourself when writing and publishing content to your site and social media platforms.

What you publish will be connected to you and who you are. You also have to learn to understand your target audience and how the human psyche works. The better your understanding, the better are the chances to succeed in your endeavours.

If you are pumping out links to offers, you will not be perceived as a professional and authentic marketer. People are looking for value when they are searching for solutions to their current “problems”.

Tangible information is golden. If you can provide sound advice which is easy to translate into action for your audience, without asking to pull out their credit card at once, you will acquire loyal followers hat will trust you and what you offer. They will turn to you for information and buy their product or service through your links.

By offering quality content every time you publish something, it is easier to sell further down the line. Just think about it as a conversation with your best friend when you have discovered a great product you use or want to use.

Will you be comfortable recommending something that you only perceive as money in your pocket and not as an outstretched hand as help to others? How are an attitude and approach to your business going to impact you as a person?

Finally, how will you handle the speed bump you will hit sooner or later, and you have nothing else to support your business other than cold leads?

There is only one person that can answer those questions, and that is you.

If you incorporate sound ethics, integrity and authenticity in your work, making it a habit, you will reap tremendous benefits in what yo do.

I am a firm believer in behaviour, which reflects those three traits in a person. I have seen it with my own eyes in the aviation Industry. The people who show and put such qualities into practice have done well within their specialised competence area.

They have become the “goto” persons to get answers or ideas to solve “pain points” and obstacles.

One Year is a Lifetime – Lessons Learned

One Year is A Lifetime

As previously mentioned, I am now at the one year mark within the Industry of affiliate marketing. What have I accomplished so far, and what am I planning for this year and forwards?

I have written something about it in the first blog post of this year, but there are necessary adjustments to the Master Plan. I will come back o the changes later int his blog post.

So, to the question; what have I learned during these 12 months? The short answer is a lot! If you are new or experienced in digital marketing I think you will recognize several of the experiences I have had and still have.

When I started out I was told, or actually, it was actually strongly recommended, to start with only one niche and build it properly before expanding.

Further, I was told to follow the training and tutorials step by step at Wealthy Affiliate, the platform where my adventure started.

The same advice was given to me on other well-known platforms like ClickFunnelsLegendary Marketer, and the latest Jonathan Montoya, the creator of Freedom Breakthrough.

Finally, my mentor, Nathaniell Brenes has consistently reminded me to be patient, diligent and consistent in building out my website before venturing out in the digital world, adding additional ways to do affiliate marketing.

Did I follow their advice? No, not entirely. I thought I could handle and leverage my business with more niches in parallel and engaging on several platforms simultaneously.

I was used to multitasking and delegation of the task to my crew from my flying career. But in this business, I am basically flying solo.

The result is that I have stretched myself relatively thin and not having the progress that I could have had if I had taken heed of the advice I have been given. I forgot my basic training skills and methods from flight school.

I have tried golden promises of quick ways to commissions with only 2 to 3 clicks, and then everything would run automatically. Promises of blueprints that will solve my pain points and get me to the results I am seeking much quicker than focusing on just one method at a time.

As a result, I have wasted a lot of time and a bit of money instead of working on my core foundation, affiliate marketing, via blogging on my website.

Refocusing and Breaking it Down in Details

As the year turned into 2021, I had to make a choice. To be transparent, I had wasted so much time chasing success, just like a mirage in the desert. The time could have been spent on writing articles, documenting my journey in digital marketing.

Lesson learned. Since January this year, my work schedule has been focused on content for my website and content for my social media channels. I have a written plan that I mostly follow. It depends on the time available to help me in working just on one thing.

I use the Pomodoro method (Wikipedia, 2021-03-20) to complete all of my tasks for one day. I have set it up in 25 minutes periods, with 5 minutes pause, and after four periods of 25 minutes, there is a long pause of 15 minutes.

The most important part is the morning ritual, which starts with writing down my dreams from sleep, a cold shower (Wim Hof), meditation 5 to 15 minutes, and then reading for 30 minutes, followed by a blogging session of 30 minutes.

I also use affirmations and mantras to keep the positivity, mindset and manifestation active. This routine is a “killer” method for me to address procrastination and progress continuously.

I have now cut it down to 4 core products and services related to the products and services I promote. They all pay out high commissions when my referrals buy the product.

And it is easy to focus on one of the products at the time, for example, Freedom Breakthrough for 4 weeks, and then shift to ClickFunnels.

Freedom Breakthrough 3 day challenge

Of course, there are some other affiliate products in the mix, which are used for lead magnets and bonuses, Like the white label Happy Birthday Funnel.

My promotion channels are my website, Facebook, Tik Tok and YouTube. When I get all these playing together, I will add in podcasts and coaching. Coaching comes a natural part of teaching others to do affiliate marketing without making the same mistakes as me.

Some Final Words

Are you ready to do the work to reach the goals you have set for your affiliate marketing “adventure”?

It requires a mindset to complete what you have started. It will not do itself. You have to put in the work to reap the benefits from it.
Everything feels like it is taking forever when you are starting. We want to see some results, but everything needs some “good, fertile soil to grow”, and it needs nourishments to continue to grow.

In the beginning, you are exhilarated! You are going to earn infinite amounts of money by having your own business and deciding when to work or not, and how you want to do it.

The excitement will start to wear off after a while before it starts picking up again when the first results appear. The curve at the bottom often called the 3 months bump, is where people leave and do not continue.

If your mindset is not set at that moment, you will achieve nothing in terms of reaching your goals. What is the solution to this pain point? The answer is; YOU!

You need to work on your mindset every day! There is no way around it.
That is also the reason why personal growth and self-development niche are so huge! Also, the niches related to health, motivation, mindset, meditation and mindfulness are hugely successful but very competitive due to this fact.

All we do in life is dependent on the ” right” mindset. Without it, you will achieve nothing, to be quite blunt.

  1. Your mindset will certainly influence decisions you make and I very much think that if you believe you can do something, that you will achieve it. I find it interesting that you say you have competed in martial arts and also cross country skiing. Do you think that it has made you more focussed?

To have a good mentor is always helpful to give you motivation and inspiration.

I had to smile when I read the Pomodoro method, as pomodoro is the Italian word for tomato, so it conjured up different images for me.

    • Line, your comment is highly appreciated. Yes, both the martial arts career and the cross country career has definitively shaped me into a more focused person. I can become pretty “intense” when concentrating on the task at hand, and don´t give up easily

The need to push your body to the limit and further despite the pain and discomfort that follows is a good mentor 😃.

A good one about the Pomodoro method 😂. But it is very comparable 🙂 The tomato is usually sliced up into smaller bits, so it describes the very well; work for 25 minutes and then 5 minutes break.

  2. I also view this as an adventure. When we’re blogging, we’re given the opportunity of writing about whatever we like. It’s a lifetime opportunity. We don’t know if the next generation will have this opportunity because the online market could get too competitive. But while this door is open, I’ll take advantage of it.

    • Ann, thank you for visiting and your opinion related to the topic of the article. You hit the nail spot on. It is the opportunity of a lifetime, and like you, I am grabbing it with both hands.

During the last year, I have tried other ways to do affiliate marketing, but blogging is the best of them without a doubt.

      All the best,

  3. People always think that vulnerability is a bad thing, but it is in no way bad. Being vulnerable portrays strength and determination. Affiliate marketing has opened my eyes to a whole new world of learning, accepting, comprehending, and security in the area that I dedicate my work towards. It has not been an easy path but we all have our own stories of failures and success mixed with survival; it’s what makes us humans. When I first started in this business, I had no idea what affiliate marketing was, and now, my knowledge is more abroad and I can certainly manage my own business without being scared of all of the “what-if’s”.

    • Thank you for sharing your own journey, Stephanie. It resonates with my own experiences since I started with affiliate marketing. It put all my previous knowledge and experience in life in another perspective than I had before.

Getting rid of the “what-if’s” and replace them with “how can I solve this” is a winner.

      All the best,
